A few weeks ago, I posted about a homemade dishwasher detergent that seemed to work great. Seemed.
After several weeks, though, we’ve noticed a cloudy buildup developing on both our plastic and glassware. Tried tweaking the recipe — changing the ratio of baking soda to salt, using less and then more dishwashing soap — all to no avail.
So it’s back to store-bought for now, but I’ve continued to search the World Wide Webs for other ideas. For round two, I settled on this recipe from Kenmore since a) it uses borax, washing soda and salt, things we routinely have on hand, and b) Kenmore. If they can build the dishwasher, surely they know what to put in it. Right?
We’ll find out.
Give us a few weeks to test drive this sucker, and we’ll report back on its effectiveness.
In the meantime, I wanted to let y’all know, in case you were thinking about trying the original recipe we recommended. Might want to hold off and stick to using the dishwasher in a more, um, reliable way.
