Rootimentary, my dear Watson*

Pulled the last of the carrots this week to make room for Brussels sprouts in the raised bed. They were, by far, the big win of the growing season. Hardy, neglect-loving, and heat-tolerant — it’s the perfect vegetable. So much rich, sweet flavor for so little effort. We’ll definitely be planting this Danvers 126 variety again.

Carrots need very little space — just a foot deep of loose soil — making them perfect for container gardens. So if you’re trapped in an apartment but want to get your hands dirty, throw down two bucks worth of seed in pots on a sunny balcony or patio, and show off your sexy carrots all year long.

*Couldn’t resist since I’m a complete, well, one of these.
