At some point, we’ll stop gushing about how wonderful events are in Waverly, Alabama, at Standard Deluxe.
When they start sucking.
So here are some images from this year’s Waverly Tomato Showdown. It’s a low-key affair, where folks just bring their finest tomato, register it, put it on a plate and have it judged by, I dunno, people who like tomatoes best, I guess.
Tony Brook and Will Dooley played some great acoustic tunes. There was a BLT “bar” with some of the finest pig products I’ve tasted in a while, and Jenn and I might’ve sneaked in a wee bit of cucumber-infused gin for a couple of refreshing tonics, enjoyed in our stainless steel Klean Kanteen cups.
There’s a lot more available real estate at this event than say, the Waverly Boogie. So next year we’re bringing a posse with us and breaking out the bocce set and Scrabble board.
If y’all aren’t keeping an eye on what Standard Deluxe screen printers are doing in Waverly, you oughtta be.
