Seemed appropriate last night to plant something beautiful to counteract the ugliness in Boston. So the front porch container is now bursting at the seams with society garlic, sage, lemon balm, and woodland phlox.
Society garlic is a lily — and a distant cousin of bulbs from the grocery — with tall purple blossoms and pungent leaves. It’ll be a great addition to spicy Mediterranean dishes, and it’s nice to be able to plant something that’s attractive as well as edible.
Thank goodness for garden therapy. No matter what happens, playing in the dirt always reminds me that it’s still a wonderful world.
