Greetings from Spudnik

Spudnik seems to be on target for its summer crop of Yukon Gold potatoes. When we came back from our two-week road trip, the garbage can planter was slap full of new growth. Following the instructions I’ve seen over and over on the interwebs, yesterday I added more soil-less potting medium — a mix of mushroom compost, worm castings, peat moss, and vermiculite — until half of the new growth was covered.

The plan is to repeat this process until the leaves begin to die back in the summer, at which point we tump the container over to harvest the potatoes. We’ll keep you updated on the progress, gentle readers. Hopefully we’ll soon be doing this with forty pounds of starchy goodness.
